Explore IT is a level I OCN accredited course, learn how to use a computer and get your staff qualified at the same time! Learn along-side students of your own ability on this fun, light, introduction to the world of I.T.‘Explore IT Main Course’ – A follow on course from the ‘Explore IT Starter Course’. Over 6 weeks, 2 hours per week; take your experience a little further by going deeper into word-processing, surfing the net and email using ‘Outlook’. Be introduced to ‘Excel’ spread-sheets, ‘Photoshop’ image manipulation and ‘Powerpoint’ digital presentations.

‘Explore IT in One Day’ – A day-long course for small businesses and groups, giving your staff an over-view of the benefits of I.T. to a group or organisation. This all day (10-4pm) session introduces you to the computer, word-processing, surfing the net, spreadsheets and web-based email. Get a taste of how using a computer in your business or group could help you keep an eye on your finances, enable you to do all your letter heads and stationary, keep in touch by email and use the net to keep up-to-date as well as keep an eye on the competition!

‘Desk-Top-Publishing’ – A day-long course introducing you to the endless possibilities of DTP. Create letter-heads, business cards, newsletters and publicity booklets. Learn to insert your own photographs to embellish your publications, apply your company colours and company logos to all your publications to build in ‘colour association’. Learn the importance of re-sizing your images with a brief introduction to ‘Photoshop Elements’.
Save yourself a fortune at home by making your own range of birthday cards and Christmas cards etc - get some matching paper and envelopes, it’s a lot of fun!‘

'An Introduction to Web-design’ – A day-long course introducing you to the amazing world of making websites! Ever wondered why your current web-design company takes ages to make the slightest change to your site – and then charges you the earth? Come and find out why! Take the journey from that ‘light bulb moment’ (the, ‘I must have a website’ moment) to the hit-counter rolling ‘round as visitors flood in! Map all those important steps - what is my site going to be about? What shall I call it? What colour and how many pages does it need? Just what is HTML? Be introduced to ‘Dreamweaver’ – the industry standard web design program. Take your first steps into putting all that preparation together. Just how do you get your website on ‘the net’? ‘Power to your Powerpoint!’ – A day-long course showing you just how versatile ‘PowerPoint’ is. PowerPoint is a program which allows you to prepare and display a digital presentation. Discover how to get your photos onto your computer and what to with them then. What if you don’t have a computer? Why should I buy a digital camera? Put all your new found skills to use in a photo-shoot with fellow students then learn how to edit and organise your shots on your computer using a free program from Google called ‘Picasa’.

‘Cameras and Computers - Advanced’ - Think you know all about your digital camera? COSMIC can offer your group a follow on course introducing you to using a Digital Single Lens Reflex camera (a DSLR). Learn about the difference in using an SLR over a digital compact, the relationship between ‘Aperture’ and ‘Shutter speed’, the importance of controlling ‘White Balance’ and ‘ISO’.

Put all your new found skills to good use in a photo-shoot then learn how to edit your shots on your computer using ‘Photoshop Elements’.

‘Photoshop’ – A day-long course showing you just a few of the almost endless possibilities of image manipulation with ‘Photoshop Elements’ can offer. Start the day by getting your files into order. Sort out your ‘My Pictures’ folder, create new folders, re-name folders, delete un-wanted images – good housekeeping starts now! Learn how to perform simple adjustments like brightening or darkening, cropping your holiday snaps - to applying filter effects, cutting and pasting or the different ways to select areas of an image to adjust them. Apply text to make banners for websites or Publisher documents. It’s a great program to have – come and find out why!
